People
When I travel, I like to take photos of people on the streets and markets, by dirty roads, or at official events. I prefer to start with a smile and ask for permission silently, using only my facial expression. After a couple of shots, I usually show the photos on my screen and start a lively conversation about their lives. The next photos are usually taken during this conversation.
In India, I was impressed by a sense of calm and balance in the faces of elderly people, both men and women. In my home country, older people often have many worries; they can become irritated or angry over small things. None of that can be seen in Indian seniors, whether it is a sadhu, a travelling holy man, or a local shoemaker. I tried to bring some of this wisdom and harmony to the viewers of my photos.
